A lot of SEO effort goes into content — keywords, headings, blog posts. That matters, but it assumes something that isn't always true: that search engines can actually crawl, understand, and index your site cleanly in the first place. When the technical foundation is shaky, even great content struggles to rank, because Google either can't find it properly or doesn't trust the structure it's sitting in.

Crawlability comes first

Before Google can rank a page, it has to find it and read it. Broken internal links, orphaned pages with no links pointing to them, and a messy site structure all make this harder. A clean site has a logical hierarchy — homepage → categories → individual pages — with clear paths connecting everything.

A site that looks great on desktop but breaks on mobile — overlapping text, buttons too small to tap, horizontal scrolling — is being evaluated primarily on that broken mobile experience, regardless of how polished the desktop version is.

Content and technical SEO aren't competing priorities — they support each other. A brilliant article on a slow, poorly structured site will underperform a decent article on a fast, clean one.
